The most common cause of dandruff is probably the fungus Malassezia furfur (previously known as Pityrosporum ovale). This fungus is found naturally on the skin surface of both healthy people and those with dandruff. The fungus likes fat, and is consequently found most on skin areas with many sebaceous glands: on the scalp, face and upper part of the body. When Malassezia furfur grows too rapidly, the natural renewal of cells is disturbed and dandruff appears with itching. Other fungi may have a similar role in causing dandruff, as may certain bacteria.

Problems such as chronic acne, pimples or dryness often point to nutrient deficiencies because the skin is the last organ to receive vitamins and minerals. Breakouts on certain areas of the face may also indicate associated organs are working overtime and your body is being swamped with toxins.

You shouldn't wash your hair too much. It dries it out too much and it can damage your hair. Wash it maybe once every two days, depending on how fast it gets greasy. Use Head&Shoulders shampoo. It works really good.

Dandruff weakens the roots, and consequently hair starts falling off. Dandruff sticks on to the skin of the scalp in a cake form and blocks free flow of air to the roots. As a result, hair becomes weak at the roots and loosen their hold.

Mix essential oils of cedarwood (seven drops) cypress and juniper (each ten drops) in 50ml of carrier oil. Massage it finely into the scalp and leave for one hour. To eradicate, rub neat, mild shampoo into the hair, then rinse out with warm water. You can prepare a homemade mixture of 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice with 100 grams witch hazel in 200ml of water and use it on washed hair. Applying the mixture several times is helpful in dandruff treatment.

Most people get dandruff as a result of eating too many carbs. Yes, there are some other reasons, but this it the number one cause. Eating lots of carbs & sugar causes the flaking scalp that we all have, to make the tiny flakes bond to each other creating large flakes that you can see. It is natural for the scalp to flake off, but by cutting out all the sugar & carbs, the dandruff will go away in a few days. Try that and if it doesn't work, you need to go a little deeper like thyroid insufficiency due to iodine deficiency, parasites, etc.

don't over wash your hair or over style it.. your scalp and hair actually needs some natural oils to prevent dry hair and dandruff. try washing your hair every other day instead of every day and try to avoid styling it at least twice a week because harsh heat and hairspray or styling chemicals can dry your hair and scalp.
