Applying Lipstick

Lipsticks not only lend color to the lips, they protect as well. A lip pencil does wonders for the lip. But do ensure that the pencil and lipstick are of the same shade. If you use a lot of shades, identify the ones you use most and buy matching pencils for them and you can use a lip brush for the rest.

Outline the natural contour of your lips with the pencil and enhance/reduce depending on whether you want them to look larger/smaller. The advantage of a lip liner is that it prevents the lipstick from running or seeping. These done, apply lipstick using a lip brush only. It spreads evenly and stays longer.

We usually start from the centre and go towards the ends of the mouth. Do not do that. Start from the corners and go to the center. You will be surprised at the good results. Then, fill in the centre well and full. The advantage is that the corners of the mouth are a little tricky and so can be looked into clearly at the start when the lips are not colored.

Then press lips onto a tissue for a matte effect and reapply. Then apply translucent powder on it for a longer stay and matte effect. Be very careful whilst doing that for it should not alter the shade and look as if caked on. Else apply lip-gloss for a glossy effect. Glosses looks very sophisticated and glamorous and so use your discretion before using gloss.

Outline your lips w/ a lipliner that matches your lipstick. Feather or soften the edge inward before applying your lipstick.

Use a lip brush to apply lipstick to create a sharp edge when wearing a deep, intense color.

Glosses, sheer or semi-sheer lipsticks are easier to wear because precise application isn't needed.

For longer-lasting lip color, shade both lips with lip liner after defining them. As lipstick fades throughout the day, the liner offers a hint of color before you have a chance to reapply.
Balance heavy eye makeup with a soft lip color. Wear a rich and boldly colored lipstick to complement soft eye makeup.
Give the illusion of a thicker top lip by lining its outermost edges and foregoing liner on the bottom lip.
Chill lip liner for easier sharpening.
Forego lipstick if you have a cold sore. Opt instead for a camphor-based lip balm to aid in healing.

If you are not fortunate to have full lips, wear the lightest, frostiest lipsticks you can find. They will cause your lips to look fuller. Follow with Sacha lip gloss.

If you have small lips and want to give the impression of fuller ones, there's an old movie star trick that really helps. If you apply a little dab of shimmering white eyeshadow above your lower and upper lip, the light will catch it and make your lips appear fuller

Don't use black and brown because it will make your eyes black.

  7. one of my favorite applications is to lightly dab it over top my eyeshadow then put a glitter (like MAC’s reflects Teal) over top… it keeps it in place all day and looks amazing!
