Medicinal uses of cloves

cloveClove (Laung) with its distinct and strong flavor is one of the most used condiments in the Indian kitchen. This small spicy bud enhances the taste of your โ€˜Pulavsโ€™ and โ€˜Biryanisโ€™ and other curries. However, use sparingly as they can be quite overpowering. Cloves do have numerous medicinal properties to their credit. Some of the popular and well-known home remedies with cloves are mentioned here below:

* If one has a toothache, the first thing that comes to oneโ€™s mind is to grab a clove. For centuries, cloves have been chewed to temporarily relieve toothache. You might also dip a clean cotton wool in clove oil and place it between your aching gums and teeth.

* For getting rid of bad breath chew a 1-2 cloves.

* For ordinary coughs, take a teaspoon of crystal sugar and 1-2 cloves and masticate them well.

* Cloves are also used to treat athleteโ€™s foot and other skin infections since studies show that the oil in cloves kills several strains of bacteria.

* Clove tea is used to treat indigestion, flatulence also. It is used to break up intestinal gas and to treat nausea, heartburn and hyperacidity. However do not use this tea for long periods of time as it may have side-effects, especially if you are under medication for other diseases. Do consult your doctor, anyway.

Clove tea: Pour 1 cup boiling water on 1 teaspoon of cloves and let it steep for ten minutes. Add honey if desired.

* When one is suffering from excessive thirst during a bout of fever, drinking this clove tea helps.

* For cuts and bites, make a poultice. Grind up several cloves and mix in water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the cut and cover the cut with a warm towel. Leave on for 5 minutes.

* When you are suffering from colds and headache, apply a paste of cloves on your forehead.

* Massaging clove oil can provide relief in sciatica, rheumatoid arthritis and other joint and muscle pains.

* In bronchitis, a few drops of clove oil mixed with ginger juice and honey helps.

* For swollen eyelids accompanied by stinging pain, mixing a little clove powder with water and applying a bit on the eyelids relieves pain.

Home remedies for sleeplessness

The day dawns beautifully for those who have had a night of good sleep. But the same day drags on for those who have spent a disturbing, sleepless night. Sleep is a biological necessity even as eating and drinking are. Sufficient sleep renders a person normally sociable, lively and high-spirited. Itโ€™s a natureโ€™s way of rejuvenating the person for the next day. Realize all this, and make sleep a physiological habit. The consequences of long time sleep deprivation can be very grave. Lack of sleep takes its toll on the skin and hair. It causes acne-breakouts and makes one look aged and haggard beyond years. Experts opine that during sleep as our metabolic rate falls, blood goes to those areas which need the most repairing. This also steps up the production of collagen and keratin, which aid the regeneration of skin cells and help resist premature ageing. So for a younger looking and a problem free skin you need to have a good quality of sleep every night.

Pore shrinking mask recipes from home

A face with large open pores when seen from close quarters doesnโ€™t look so good. While itโ€™s quite common for oily skins to have a tendency towards open pores, an attack of pimples also leaves ugly scars and open pores behind.  Even though the scars may fade away after some time, open pores appear to be more obstinate and hardly show any signs of shrinking.  Age also takes its toll by giving an uneven/pigmented tone to the skin and making the open pores more prominent. Heredity could also be a contributing factor in determining your pore size. Itโ€™s not easy to get rid of these pores or shrink them completely or permanently using serums, lotions or face packs. Even resorting to drastic chemical/surgical procedures at the dermatologistโ€™s isnโ€™t quite capable of giving satisfactory results.  Nevertheless, you can try and minimize their appearance at least temporarily with clever makeup and a few natural skin care masks such as these: * Cleanse your face with a mild ...
